4 Battle of the Gel liners: Who wins?

  • April 10, 2013
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Eyes
20130410-145141.jpg

We are always – constantly – in the search for the best gel eyeliner- in terms of which one has the highest staying power and which one is super black and which one is super creamy!

Well, i’m making life much easier for u girls- see below for my little test (and below you will find out who wins!)

So I have the following eyeliners (the most common ones you hear about)

20130410-145129.jpg

Bobbi Brown (Black ink)

MAC (Blacktrack)

Maybelline (eye studio gel in Black)

Inglot (#77)

Makeup for Ever (#27)

20130410-145134.jpg

Below is also a picture of them being swatched on paper – I wanted to see which one will actually look dry…

20130410-145141.jpg

And you will realize MAC and Bobbi brown are the driest… They are very creamy when you first open them, but over a few weeks they just die out.

Next is a hand swatch to see which is the most creamiest and darkest

20130410-145147.jpg

You will realize that both MAC & Bobbi brown are not the darkest (other than being dry)… You will realize that Mayeblline, Inglot and Makeupforever are among the darkest ! Those 3 were also the creamiest! Makeup forever and Inglot were super super super creamy, so was maybelline but slightly less.

The last test below was to test which one stays the longest and is actually smudge proof! To test that, i decided to remove them from my hand using a makeup remover and guess what ….

IMG_0879-1

Bobbi brown & MAC were the first to get removed…. Followed by makeup forever (which they claim to be waterproof)- I realized if u kept MUFE an hour or so It would be very hard to remove as I tested that before on my eyes. Maybelline stayed…. and shockingly INGLOT remained the same- BULLET PROOF!

Verdict

I would definetly stick to those 3 (INGLOT, maybelline & MUFE). Inglot if you want it to stay smudge free and super dark, maybeline and MUFE if you want something creamy yet still dark… MAC and bobbie- doesn’t reach to the other’s standards!

0 MY REVIEW: MAC MINERALIZE RICH LIPSTICKS

  • March 14, 2013
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Lips · New Collections

Happy to see MAC extend their permanent line of lipsticks!

Now, the new Mineralize Rich Lipsticks (19 new shades) will be available at all times!

20130314-131949.jpg

The lipsticks are indeed very very very creamy and full of moisture- so your lips will be hydrated at all times! I always love MAC’s colors but many of them are matte and tend to dry my lips- but these ones are different!

I have 3 shades- and I have been testing it for a few days before writing about them to see their staying power and hydration!

20130314-131953.jpg

The lipsticks just glide easily onto the lips! That’s what I love most about it. It is super rich in moisture that your lips feel very comfortable. And Also another great thing about it (IT IS NON STICKY)!

What I didn’t like was the similar shades in the collection… The pinks where very similar to each other and the dark reds too- felt like it was very repeated in the same collection!

Here are the pictures I took from Dubai when the collection launched

20130314-131926.jpg

20130314-131931.jpg

What you will also realize- These lipsticks have a different plastic packaging! Don’t look like the original MAC lipsticks- and also- they have magnetic caps! I kinda like the magnetic caps because it ensures that your lipstick is closed. Sometimes the original mac lipstick doesn’t close well or the cover breaks so at least the magnet ensures closure.

So these are the shades I took (elegant accent , lush life, glamour era) – a pink, a dark red and a beige

20130314-132001.jpg

20130314-131957.jpg

Elegant accent is a medium warm rosy color

20130314-132005.jpg

Lush Life is a deep cool plum. I love how it is a bit translucent- lets your lip shine through. This color changes under different lighting

20130314-132017.jpg

Glamour Era is more like a caramel beige

0 MAC & Carine Roitfeld For Fall 2012 – New Collection

  • August 31, 2012
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · New Collections

MAC’s latest collaboration is with Carine Roitfeld

For those who don’t know who she is- she is a former fashion model, writer and a former editor-in-chief of Vogue,Paris.

Partnering up with MAC, she wants to produce a collection of cosmetics that will make you look, in her words, “tired sexy“.

“Beauty is about a small accident, it is not totally perfect,” says Roitfeld of her collection, which focuses on creating a smouldering smoky eye and was clearly inspired by the ex-editor’s trademark slightly undone look of artfully tousled hair with kohl-smudged eyes.

“Sometimes bad things are the more beautiful things,” she says… “So when you wake up and you haven’t taken off your mascara and you look a bit tired, but tired sexy – this is what I like.”

This collection hits MAC counters on September 6 (USA)

See below what the collection includes

Jungle Camouflage Full Face Kit, Desert Camouflage Full Face Kit, Tropical Mist Lipstick, Feline eye Brow Pencil, Brunette eye brow, black track fluid line, clear brow set, 2 mascaras, studio fix Fluid foundation, mineralize concealer, face&body foundation.

Also, the set includes 49 single lashes, tweezers, lash curler, nail lacquers, and 3 brushes

0 REVIEW: “Earthly” Eyeshadow from MAC Heavenly

  • August 3, 2012
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Eyes · New Collections

FYI: This collection has launched worldwide and will launch Aug 14 in Bahrain.

The other thing which I got from the MAC heavenly creature collection is the “EARTHLY” eyeshadow!

20120803-162809.jpg

20120803-162817.jpg

20120803-162831.jpg

Earthly eyeshadow is basically a swirl of beige, peach and cool brown with some gold.

20120803-162824.jpg

20120803-162839.jpg

To be honest.. I dislike this product! What you see is NOT what you get!

20120803-162846.jpg

The packaging shows you colors of beige, brown & gold… however…. what you GET is actually a taupe grey color!

Once those colors are mixed- the color becomes tinted with grey and very little brown is shown.

I purchased the product thinking that with the mixture of such colors i would get a beautiful brownish gold color- but what i actually got was a metalicish Grey!

If you like greyish eyeshadows with a pearly metallic sheen- then get this one! If you want it so somewhat be brown/gold… then this is the wrong one to take!

20120803-162922.jpg

Looked amazing on the pan.. but once it was blended.. looked disappointing!

Couldn’t try it in store as they were super neat & the customers did not touch them!!

However, the color payoff is not bad and good pigmentation!

0 MAC Heavenly Creature – My review on “Light Year” Mineralize Skinfinish

  • August 3, 2012
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Blushes · Face · Highlighters · New Collections

So the heavenly creature collection by MAC has launched everywhere in the world- except here- well… I have got my share from MAC in Spain !

This collection will launch in Bahrain AUG 14 (most probably)- so I hope this will help in knowing what to buy!

MAC Heavenly Creature Collection

The collection resembles “planets“! The full collection is mineralize products. Something exciting in this collection also is the return of the famous volcanic ash!! I have reviewed the special volcanic ash exfoliator here in case you have missed it!

MAC Heavenly Creature Collection

There has been major chaos in the beauty industry that this is the WOW collection from MAC… but to be honest… When I saw it- I didn’t go crazy! I just got 2 products – it wasn’t that attractive to me! (PERSONAL OPINION)..

BUT IF YOU DESPERATELY NEED HIGHLIGHTERS… THEN THIS IS THE COLLECTION U SHOULD FOCUS ON!!

Well, I wanted to review something I liked from the collection- the “LIGHT YEAR” Mineralize Skinfinish!

20120803-150425.jpg

20120803-150431.jpg

Light Year is a skinfinish with a peachy pink and gold shimmer. It has a swirl of peachy coral pink with a bigger swirl of gold.

20120803-150437.jpg

You can use this skinfinish as a blush or highlighter!

20120803-150442.jpg

It has very high pigmentation – and the color is gorgeous. Rose goldish shade…. that is not tooo glittery/shimmery. That is what i liked about it- when the gold is blended with the pink it gives off a beautiful color! Surprisingly it is very similar to “REDHEAD” skinfinish from the MAC Naturally collection- if you missed the review read about it here !!

20120803-150448.jpg

Check out the swatch below to see how the color looks like

20120803-150454.jpg

Beautiful golden sheen!

20120803-150504.jpg

Close up!

MY VERDICT: If you really need a highlighter- this will be a fabulous one! But i don’t suggest using it if you are very pale!

2 The Volcanic Ash Exfoliator Scrub – My Review

  • July 12, 2012
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Face · New Collections · Skin Care

So I recently got this new exfoliator scrub from MAC !

I decided to try it out during my holiday here in Spain….

MAC Mineralize Volcanic Ash Exfoliator

20120712-033342.jpg

20120712-033349.jpg

20120712-033408.jpg

FYI – this product was sold a few years ago… and it got discontinued! They have recently launched it now in the MAC heavenly creatures collection (in Europe & USA) ….. and I believe it won’t stay for that long! So grab it before it’s finished!!!

20120712-033448.jpg

20120712-033415.jpg

This exfoliating scrub is not only for exfoliation purposes- but also cleansing. The ingredients that make up this scrub: Actual volcanic ash mixed with some fine sugar crystals. It also has silica.

20120712-033403.jpg

This scrub will basically refine your skin and unclog any pores making your skin feel extra soft, smooth and clean. The product is filled with MINERALS… so you can use it also on your full body!

Well as you can see, the scrub is BLACK! Probably from the “ash” ! But I am loving this product!! I have tested it for a few days now and it is really a fantastic scrub to have on your bathroom shelf. It deeply exfoliates … feels like I have something that Spa’s who give high end facials would use. Smells ashy too… but you will really feel that it is working deep into your skin.

Keep in mind- Silica will actually scratch you so be very careful.

As adviced on the tube, use no more than 3 times per week. Apply on your clean face and rub, then rinse off.

20120712-033421.jpg

20120712-033355.jpg

My advice: apply moisturizer afterwards as your skin will be hungry to absorb moisture.

Below is a a quick guide on how to use it… I scrub my face but I am showing you an example on my hand.

20120712-033427.jpg

20120712-033437.jpg

Just remember to work it into your skin, so keep rubbing in circular motions!

20120712-033443.jpg

After  this, rinse off with water and you will feel how smooth your skin is! Don’t forget to moisturize!!

I really loved this scrub … unbelievably amazing and does the job without stressing the skin or making it red or anything like that.

1 PEONY PETAL- The Blush inspired by the Paeonia Flower

  • June 7, 2012
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Blushes · New Collections

I got this blush last week- from the MAC Tres Chic Collection!

The collection was wainly focused on blushes- made up of 6 blushes only. You have the reddish orangy shade, the neutral and the pink/mauve.

20120607-120632.jpg

To be honest, majority of the shades look very similar to the MAC permanent blushes- so i was hesitated to purchase the rest.

The one I really loved and got is “PEONY PETAL“

20120607-120649.jpg

A gorgeous pink- with a hint of mauve with it!

Named “Peony Petal”- after the beautiful flower “PAEONIA”

The color is not just pink- it does have some blue undertones with it- So it can be described as a “BRIGHT BLUE PINK”!

The color is candy pink – and the texture is satin/matte.

20120607-120659.jpg

You can achieve a sheer look with this or intesify it too! So it is easily buildable.

20120607-120705.jpg

FYI: since the color has blueish undertones- it will go better with cooler complexion. If you have a warmer complexion (yellow undertone) then you should match it with a similar color lip to have something to compliment!

20120607-120711.jpg

Check out the Swatches below to see the color. As you can see, my skin is slightly tanned- yet it goes beautifully with it!

20120607-120717.jpg

0 ‘Rich Core’ – A beautiful shade of rich purple -MY REVIEW

  • June 1, 2012
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Eyes · New Collections

So I recently purchased some products from the MAC “In extra Dimension” collection! Don’t worry I will review them all soon- hopefully!

I got this one product which I absolutely fell in love with… Other than their amazing highlighters.

I’m not a fan of colored eyeshadows- meaning I’m more of a neutral shades person- I love the browns and sandy shades the most.

BUT THIS PURPLE SHADE TOOK MY BREATH AWAY!!

20120601-121031.jpg

The eyeshadow is called “RICH CORE“… the color lives up to its name.. VERY RICH INDEED! Keep in mind that it is LIMITED EDITION!

THE PACKAGING

It is double the size of normal MAC eyeshadows. And the 3D texture is what grabs the attention! I love the presentation of this collection’s eyeshadows….

20120601-121039.jpg

20120601-121046.jpg

THE FORMULA

A special formula- liquid power … with the 3D prismatic effect it will instantly sculpt what ever you want. The formula consists of some shimmer. It is cool, creamy and silky and I believe it will create a beautiful defined finish. Yes.. they blend easily!

20120601-121053.jpg

THE COLOR

I describe this color as a rich yet dirty eggplant color. A plum like/purplish color! The color gives of a burgudy sheen too. So it has some brownish undertones that reflect within the purple. When you take a closer look, you will realize there are tiny shimmery particles which- don’t show as much unless you zoom in.

20120601-121103.jpg

I wore this color the other day & I have recieved a lot of compliments! You just have to make sure you blend the edges… and build the clor of course. One coat is not enough.

20120601-121116.jpg

When applied- it is like I have mixed two MAC eyeshadows together– Satin taupe + Sable… to get this result.

Below is another hand swatch where the rich color is shown clearly!

Another Collection from MAC… well it is with a theme ofcorse- a SAILOR theme- with all the stripes!

20120516-120559.jpg

Ok- i have seen the pix… and to be honest- I’m not impressed with this collection. The packaging is too much- tooo much stripes. The stripes on the packaging makes it very distracting to see the actual color of the product!

The collection is out worldwide except the lovely middle east- hopefully soon!

0 MAC – ‘In Extra Dimension’ Skinfinish – MORE THAN SUPERB!

  • May 11, 2012
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Face · Highlighters · Powders

Thanks to one of my followers (more like a sister) who got this product for me from the UK!

Well, this collection didn’t arrive in Bahrain yet and it will arrive on doomsday I guess:P

The product I will review here is from a new collection in MAC- which already launched in the US and Europe for a while now.

The product is from a collection called “In Extra Dimension“- the full product listing/pictures can be found in a previous post- click here !

This amazing collection features beautiful eyeshadows & skinfinishes…. all in 3D texture.

FYI: it’s called ‘extra dimensions’ for a reason- to highlight the dimensions of the face & bring out it’s unique features.

According to MAC- “Introducing a new liquid-powder formula with prismatic reflections that sculpts, highlights and models the face.”

Gorgeous shades- and I fell in love with a skinifinish which I had to get a hold of!

“Superb” – is one of 3 skinifinishes available. I fell in love with the color.

20120510-224403.jpg

Superb is more of a nude peachy color with a hint of gold with it. More like rose gold

20120510-224429.jpg

It does have shimmer- but I love how it is NOT too shimmery/glittery. It’s a subtle shimmer to give a beautiful glow.

20120510-224420.jpg

Many girls will get confused, believing it is like other mineralize skinfinish products from MAC. Well, it is completely different- I think they should have named it something else. The texture and finish is totally different than the other skinfinishes.

20120510-224412.jpg

FYI- this product is a highlighter. Meaning that you would use it to accentuate the features on your face. I love using it on my cheekbone & nose.

What I absolutely love about this specific shade, it goes perfectly with a tanned look! Many of the highlighters we find don’t contain a golden/nude sheen – more leaning towards silverish white colors. A sunkissed look goes perfectly with “superb” skinfinish.

20120510-224446.jpg

Use it with a sigma brush F35 or MAC 188 to apply on specific areas. Don’t over apply – make it look natural.

20120510-224437.jpg

It is easily blendable- highly pigmented- long staying power.

Check out my swatch below

20120510-224455.jpg

This product is selling out FAST- and it is LIMITED edition… so get it while u can!

0 MY REVIEW: MAC MINERALIZE SKINFINISH “REDHEAD”

  • April 12, 2012
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Blushes · Face

This gorgeous product from MAC recently launched in Bahrain- 2 days ago… well it has been launched ages ago in other countries :( …

20120412-162248.jpg

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in the shade “RedHead” is what grabbed my attention from the MAC Naturally collection!

20120412-162241.jpg

This product can be considered a blush and/or a highlighter! I use it as a highlighter

20120412-162254.jpg

Redhead consists of gold to pink shades- And it is LIMITED EDITION! ( it is a repromote though keep in mind- has been introduced previously)

20120412-162302.jpg

It carries strips of 4 gradual shades: champagnish beige, dark champagne beige, peachy champagney color & a bronzy shade with a hint of rose

20120412-162310.jpg

The trick is mixing all these colors together and applying it on ur upper cheekbones (preferrably) to give u a beautiful sheen/glow! It will add some warmth but definetly some sheen/shimmer with a hint of color

It can also work perfectly with bronzed skin! You can also use it as a blush-I would say for those with fair skin

20120412-162318.jpg

You can easily pull it off by complimenting it with a nude lip! Beautiful combo

It is such a pretty color with great pigmentation. So be careful not to apply TOO much of it! Make it look subtle by using a lighter hand. It does make a great highlighter!!! A subtle one that is not too SILVERISH!

The other skinfinish in this collection is “Blonde” which is more leaning towards a pinkish shade.

My verdict: it is a good buy! If you can’t find a highlighter in Bahrain- this can be a good one

2 The M.A.C brush cleanser – WHY use it and HOW?!

  • March 28, 2012
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Brushes · Miscellaneous

BRUSHES are more important than products- I always say that!

However, keeping your brushes clean is a MUST- although it’s a hassle & time consuming.

Well… WHY DO YOU HAVE TO CLEAN YOUR BRUSHES?

After each use, lots of bacteria/germs/oils & color deposits form on the brush- making it sticky/dirty/filthy for your next application.

My rule with brushes- always wash them once a week (with shampoo), but daily, you have to cleanse them with a cleanser to help in removing the dirty germs & color!

I have tried many other brands- but always the best is – MAC.

20120327-142832.jpg

20120327-142731.jpg

MAC’s cleanser is simply amazing- huge bottle which takes ages to finish… leaves the brushes clean… brush friendly .. keeping the brushes supersoft.

20120327-143559.jpg

Keep in mind: this cleanser is NOT just to remove the color deposits… IT’S A DISINFECTANT… meaning it will santize your brush hygenically- which is great!

20120327-142804.jpg

20120327-143623.jpg

How to clean you dirty brush?!

Take a tissue, lay it on a flat surface. Apply a tiny bit of the cleanser on the tissue.

20120327-142911.jpg

Take your brush & go back and forth in all motions on that tissu. The picture below shows the brush before cleaning (dirty brush).

You will immediatly see how the color transferred from the brush to the tissue.

Notice how the brush is clean now! Back to it’s natural color

Ofcorse if you are using a bigger brush, more cleanser would be needed and you will need to go back and forth a lot more than smaller brushes. Below is a bigger dirty brush.

And now it’s clean! Although, check out the bigger mess of dirt it transferred

After that, you need to wipe the clean brush with a dry tissue to remove any excess wetness.

Your brush should dry in no more than 5 minutes & you can use it again!

If you are sick & tired of applying false lashes- or even failed to apply them correctly, wait for MAC’s new mascara- the false lashes mascara

It will be available in October-USA & January 2010 Internationally

MAC promise you that their mascara will DELIVER the false lash effect without actually ‘faking it’. According to MAC, this will give you dark, deep, rich, long lasting lashes

It has a big wand/applicator- and the pigment is carbon black. The unique double lush brush will create volume & magnify your lashes. It looks like a standard brush to me- let’s hope it performs up to what MAC claims

Good news: It will be in the permanent collection. Thank god! So don’t fear that it will be off the market

8 MAC’s Pure Orange Studio Finish Skin Corrector

  • September 21, 2011

orange3

I have been to MAC a lot and was always curious when I saw the orange concealer. It’s soooo orange. What the hell do they use that for?

Then one of my good friends told me a makeup artist used that on her face! I was like- WHAT? Orange? Hahahaha

So then I got it, & tested it out. I’m Impressed. WOW

Let me explain to you first why it’s being used then I’ll tell you how to use it!

This orange skin corrector is slightly creamy (just like any beige concealer) as you can see in the photo below.

The orange is a bold orange- see my swatch below

Ok so why is it orange? The orange colour neutralizes any bluish/greenish/blackish colors on your skin & balance it. It will give you a fresh look as if you just had a facial/peel.

It covers dark circles extremely well. This product is a always a top seller in India- where they rely on it to remove pigmentation from their skin & also to sculpt it.

Why not just use normal beige concealer?

A beige concealer might appear greenish/blackish if placed on dark spots. By neutralizing the dark spots with the orange, the beige concealer will look natural on top!

How to use:

Apply it after moisturizing your face. Before foundation & concealer. I apply it with my finger.

DO NOT SWIPE IT OR SMUDGE IT… always DAB, DAB, & DAB with your finger.

Apply: under eyes, around forehead (hairline), on cheekbones, jaw line. Most important to cover up under your eyes. It will look weird- bright orange. Dab it with your finger.

After that, get a MAC130 brush (short duo fibre brush)

& blend it all in under it disappears.

You can then dab it all over with a sponge.

Proper blending does take some time- make sure no orange remains!

Foundation (on face) & concealer on (eye area)- will do the trick & cover up the warm color.

3 MY PHOTO TUTORIAL: SAVE YOUR DRIED UP GEL LINER!

  • September 16, 2011

y4

Yes, I know it’s really annoying how gel eyeliner tends to dry up so fast!! The small jar/tub dries up so quickly whenever it’s left open. I try to minimize the drying by flipping it on a flat surface in between uses.

Ok, so if you brought an expensive gel liner & your sad because it’s dried up, don’t worry- there is a solution!

I’m gonna show you a simple experiment that will save your gel!

You need the following:

-Gel Liner

-Brush

-Hot (boiling) water

-a container/bowl

- a sandwich plastic bag (zipped)

1.  Here is gel liner- all dried up- doesn’t look as smooth during application

2. Close the gel liner properly

3. Place it in the sandwich bag- zip the bag

4. Place hot water in a small container/bowl

5. Placed the bag with the gel inside the hot water filled bowl- Let it sit for 10-13 minutes

6. slowly open the bag after removing it from the water, remove the jar & open it!

You will feel that the gel is soft!! MUCH SOFTER THAN WHAT IT WAS!

You can do this once a month if you feel it’s dried up again! Just make sure the gel cover is always on whenever you’re using it or between uses to get rid of the unwanted air!

0 Sigma Brush review: LARGE ANGLED BRUSH (vs. MAC)

  • September 15, 2011
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Brushes
F40

What I love about sigma is their quality & price. Combined- it becomes a winner.

The Large Angled Brush (F40)

This brush is used to contour the cheeks. Fibers are buffed around the edge & very soft. I love using this brush as a blush brush too, since the angle helps the diagonal application of the apple cheeks. Contouring the cheeks is perfected with this brush as it creates the illusion of high cheekbones- giving more dimensions to the face.

Comparison of Sigma to MAC: MAC has the exact brush MAC 168. Same size, same softness.

Sigma price: $ 14

MAC price: $ 34

0 The woman who’s known for her red lips- Dita Von Teese: Get to know her lipsticks

DITAA

Known for her classic style, pin up hair, black lined eyes & super red lips- Dita Von Teese is also known for her old fashioned style & burlesque dancing.

Simply put, she loves red lipstick. According to her, “I wear the lipstick on my non-red-lipstick days, or when I want to be incognito at yoga class.”

Dita loves Russian Red –by MAC. Russian Red is a very rich matte color that can stay very long on your lips.

It’s very intense & has bluish undertones. This color launched in the 1980’s & Madonna used it in the 90’s!

She also loves Ruby Woo-by MAC.

It’s a color close to Russian Red, but very matte. Top it over Cherry lip pencil by MAC.

Guerlain’s “kiss kiss Excess de Rouge” is another favorite of hers. It’s an extremely creamy lipstick with a beautiful bright red color.

Also, Dior  “Diorific Rouge Bingo”- smooth and nondrying with long lasting power.

Also, she loves Tom Ford’s “smoke red”

0 Eyeshadows- THEIR DIFFERENT TYPES,TEXTURES & FINISHING

  • September 13, 2011
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Eyes · Miscellaneous
lustre

Eyeshadows are not only a color. Their texture & finish is what makes them stand out.

My focus will be on MAC eyeshadows- since most of us buy them & for the huge range of eyeshadow types they have.

MAC eyeshadows are highly pigmented, with high quality, can be greatly blended, & long lasting power. In order for you to know what eyeshadow finish/type you have, flip the eyeshadow tub, it will write “frost/satin” etc next to the name.

MAC eyeshadows have different finishes- described below:

FROST

Frost shades have mini spots that will reflect the light- so it will give a frost effect. It will tend to look slightly metallic. They are buildable- you can make it more dramatic by blending & increasing, then blending again. But the frost will build up also- so just keep in mind.

Will look great if light shades of frost used as brow bone highlight.

MAC eyeshadows frost examples: Bronze, Humid, Nylon, Satin Taupe, Pink Freeze,Crystal, Paradisco

MATTE

The Matte finish gives off a true color or “HIGH PAYOFF COLOR”. It has no shine or reflective shimmery pigment.  Also, eyeshadows come in “MATTE 2” finish- meaning they have more cream & are easier to blend.

It is amazing to use for full lids & crease definition.

MAC eyeshadows matte examples: Wedge, Charcol brown, Malt, Swiss chocolate, Blackberry, Carbon

MAC eyeshadows matte 2 examples: Blanc Type, Brown Script, Typographic, Copperplate

LUSTRE

The lustre finish has a slight glittery effect. It sort of has a smooth & pearly.

MAC eyeshadows lustre examples: Honesty, Retrospeck, Gleam, Mythology

SATIN

The satin finish is a soft & subtle non frosty but light refractive color.  A good color intensity & appears to be silky smooth.

MAC eyeshadows satin examples: Shroom, Orb, Brule, Cork, Mystery, Print, Brun

VELUXE

The veluxe finish is highly pigmentsed with a slight matte finish but has some creamy consistency within. It is so smooth.

MAC eyeshadows veluxe examples: Samoa silk, Brown down, Kid

VELUXE PEARL

The veluxe pearl finish is sort of similar to veluxe finish but this one has a slight metallic shimmer in them.

MAC eyeshadows veluxe pearl examples: All that glitters, Knight Divine, Hocus Pocus, Woodwinked, Expensive pink

VELVET

The velvet finish gives a soft color than what it actually appears to be. It feels velvety.

MAC eyeshadows velvet examples: Vanilla, Smut, Mulch, texture, Trax, Sable

2 Springhseen Blush from MAC – beautiful sheen glow

Springsh

This blush from MAC is different from the rest. I don’t consider it a “blush”! I feel that it doesn’t only add a hint of color, but highlights the skin to give a beautiful light glow.

It’s called “Springsheen” -It basically gives you a beautiful peachy glow

The picture above is shown when photographed with light.

The photo below shows how the blush looks like with NO light.

Let me describe the color for you. It’s a peach color with a hint of pink & golden shimmers. It will give you a rich, goldish peach color on our cheeks. What’s good about it is the shimmer is not TOO much.

Whichever blush you choose, you can apply, then you can apply springsheen as a highlighter on the top part of your cheeks. It works beautifully if applied to compliment any peachy/pinky/light bronze blush. Can be also used alone!

Amazingly, it matches all skin tones.

2 The plumy brown SATIN TAUPE- one of MAC’s best eyeshadows

  • August 25, 2011
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Eyes

I absolutely love love love Satin taupe eyeshadow from MAC.

It’s texture is “frosty”- but the color is just beautiful- a lightish brown mushroom color with a bronzish silvery shimmer. It even has a hint of purple in the mix.

As always, MAC’s “frost” eyeshadows are always highly pigmented. With proper blending, it will look subtle & natural.

I always wear it on my full eyelid (blend out the crease) + liquid eye liner. You can wear it as a base with some black on the outer corners to define it, if you like.

Make sure you don’t apply it heavily- to not look like you were punched in the face.

This eyeshade works well to do the “smoky look”& will look FAB with nude colored lips!

0 MAC’s VANILLA pigment- why is it so good?

  • August 22, 2011
  • Mai Al Moayyed
  • · Eyes · Miscellaneous

My all time favorite pigment: MAC’s VANILLA

The color: It appears to be white, but it’s not actually white! It’s a Peachy-gold shimmer delicately grinded to make application easy. It is not frosty, so it can suit many skin tones & ages- as it’s glowy. It is basically used to cause a more dramatic effect for the eyes.

Color shown above portrays a beautiful golden/white highlight

Where to use it: You can use it on your brow bone ( a highlighter). I usually take a brush that can be used for easy access small areas- whichever brush you choose, make sure the hairs are short (tiny). Apply it on your brow bone, and easily blend it with your finger. I also love to use it next to my “tear ducts”- which is the eyes inner corners. This gives an amazing glow & attracts whoever straight to your eyes. It makes your eyes brighter (if placed in inner corner!)

Extra Use: this might sound weird, but some girls mix some of the pigment in their daily body lotion. They mix it up, and then get glowy moisturized skin as a result!

I DON’T recommend using it as a “Cheek highlighter”. It’s is quite difficult to use & any wrong application will cause a mess. This type of loose powder needs to be mastered properly, and the mini tub won’t help a big brush. Plus, it’s too shimmery for the cheeks.
